What a busy week we had, and here I am, holding Naylah in a hospital bed because she has hives all over body. What an awesome way to start Good Friday. While we are still here trying to figure out the cause of the hives and why her fever is so high. Let me tell you about our week.
Naylah had a swallow study done on Tuesday. Not much has change since the one she had last October. She still drink better if liquid is thicken rather than thin. Oral aversion, delay in swallowing, low muscle tone, problem with coordination on swallowing and chewing, and absolutely no aspiration! Whoot. So that means less to worry about thin liquids getting into her lungs!
Wednesday allergist. She wasn't feeling too good, running a fever and runny nose, pulling on ears... Great another ear infection from a set of brand new tubes gotten in February. We met the allergist, who asked about Naylah history. We gave her a summary and told her we truly believe she has seasonal allergies. I mean her nose is constantly runny, her eyes are red, keeps getting chronic ear infection due to excessive drainage. She proscribed her some nasal spray while waiting patiently for end of May for a skin test and know more about her allergies. We got home around 1 had our regular activities. Naylah was feverish and just threw up all over me. Oh no, my baby can't be getting sick. Lately I've been avoiding doctors, I see them too much and it's always the same diagnosis. It's viral it will go away. Her nurse and I started ofloxicin to avoid ear infection. She went to bed around 8 pm and had a pretty good night even tho she was snoring pretty loud for a baby. Today, woke up just fine. Around 12 starts itching, goes down for a nap wakes up full of hives all over her body. Come on, this has to be a joke. We were at the allergist just yesterday, and never has she had such allergic reaction, all the sudden the day after we meet the doctor she has one. It has to be a joke no other way. Once again, try to treat it, Benadryl for allergies, Tylenol for fever and pain. 6 pm her body gets worse. She won't stop itching and her nose seems more clog then it was earlier. 7 pm, alright I give up let's go to the ER fever is getting higher. Get to the Er miss Naylah starts vomiting... All over me. I didn't come prepared, no change of clothes for me. What a pleasant smell. Naylah gets check in... And here we are waiting for the rash to calm down so we can go home. High fever ;Tylenol, allergy; Benadryl ... Sounds like all I did at home.. Now, I remember why I avoid to go to the dr. So much unless I have no choice... Seems like often is the same treatment that you do at home. But Wait, an extra medicine! Cortisone, which should calm her skin down and stop the itching so here we are waiting for it to happen. While she sleeps in my arms, in this hospital bed. Her chest against mine. Listening to her heart beat that has slowed down finally...
I believe by now I earned half a degree in medicine by practice, I need just the paper to show it. Thank you Naylah for teaching me so much.
Good news Doctors decided to let us go home, it's 1 am and our bed is definetely calling our name. The hives is still there but he said it seems like we know what we are doing but to see her doctor in the morning. Ear infection , hives, fever, runny nose looks like tomorrow it will be a cuddly day for my baby and I, after picking up her meds at the pharmacy and seeing her pediatrician.
Happy Easter everyone, seems like there will be no egg hunt for us this weekend.
